Tradition Day in Argentina

The Tradition Day is celebrated in Argentina on November 10th, commemorating the birth of the Argentine poet José Hernández who wrote The gaucho Martin Fierro. This story is about the life of an Argentine gaucho who was taken to the border by the government to fight the indians (aboriginal tribes).

The gaucho Martin Fierro is a first person narrative, sung by himself with his guitar. This gaucho shows in his poetry many of the traditional customs of Argentina, for example, the life of the gaucho, the guitar, the mate, the farm life, the peñas (friends meetings), the folklore and the asado.

One of the most beautiful and popular traditions of Argentina is to drink mate. In Argentina we drink mate almost all the time; in the morning when we have breakfast, in the afternoon with the family, with friends or even alone. Also, we drink mate when we study, when we travel, when we are at the beach ... We share mate everywhere. Shall we drink some mates?
